April 2009 Wrap Up

Overall, this was a pretty crap month for horror. A few gems shined through amid the cesspool of low budget tripe, but it was slim pickings overall.

At the Box-Office we got...
-Nada! What a crap month theatrically.

On DVD we got...
Own it- Martyrs, Splinter, The Hellraiser Puzzle Box, Laid to Rest, One Eyed Monster.
Rent it- Donkey Punch, The Burrowers, The Uninvited.
Skip it- Bled, House, Shuttle, Baseline Killer, Vinyan, Death Factory Bloodletting, The Poker Club, While She Was Out.
The ones we haven't seen yet- Disturbed, Fear the Forest, Summer School, Sam's Lake.

Noteworthy News/Announcements...
-Jackie Earle Haley is the new Freddy Krueger in the NOES remake.
-Evan Rachel Wood joins the cast of True Blood.
-Videodrome is being remade. This is not an April Fool's joke, though I wish it were.
-All the Boys Love Mandy Lane finally gets a theatrical release on July 17th.
-H2 Images aplenty, trailer hit web in force.

So while April blew, May is certainly looking up both theatrically and DVD wise; In theaters we get Sam Raimi's highly anticipated return to his horror roots, Drag Me to Hell. Also, the is IFC is releasing a little gem called Pontypool that looks really good. On DVD we have Mum and Dad, My Bloody Valentine 3D, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, and True Blood season one.

Finally, on a sad not, Bea Arthur passed away. Sleep well sweet lady.
