2012 Summer Movie Preview- June
June is a rather thin month at the theater for horror and genre fans. As sparse as the releases may be however, there are a few goodies in the bunch, including one of the most anticipated movies in decades.
Prometheus (June 8th)- Fans have been dreaming of another Ridley Scott Alien movie pretty much since he gave us the original way back in 1979... and now their wish has come true. A prequel to one of the biggest and most storied franchises in movie history, Prometheus looks as if it's going to be amazing. You really can't go wrong with a Ridley Scott film (Robin Hood aside), and the cast isn't too shabby either. The one bad thing we've heard about Prometheus is that because the story mirrors At the Mountains of Madness to some degree, Guillermo Del Toro may never get to see his dream Lovecraft project come to life, and that's a shame. If Prometheus approaches the subject matter of ATMOM however, it just makes it all the more sweet for us. Along with Avengers and TDKR, Prometheus is the hottest ticket of the summer for us.
Piranha 3DD (June 1st)- Say what you will about Alexandre Aja's 2010 Piranha remake, but it was tons of bloody fun. From what we've seen and heard so far, the sequel looks to be just as fun, but with more boobs... so... it's a no-brainer for us. We need some light, crazy, boob-filled carnage to break up all of the heavy and dark drama of the other summer flicks. Can't wait for this one.
Snow White & the Huntsman (June 1st)-The trailers for this have looked nothing short of amazing, and as hesitant as we are to put our faith in this seemingly Twihard-friendly flick, we just cant help it. I mean, it's got Thor in it, and Charlize Theron taking a milk bath, and that mirror... it just looks visually stunning. The whole thing, not just the mirror. Let's hope it delivers on the high level that we're expecting it to.
G.I. Joe: Retaliation (June 29th)- The Rock. That's the only reason we're kind of excited to see this movie... well, that and the fact that Stephen Sommers isn't returning to direct; his 2009 G.I. Joe movie was laughably bad. The Rock is as charismatic and bad-ass as it gets in Hollywood these days though, and he could possibly make this movie fun all by his lonesome. The trailers looked pretty fun too. We're keeping our fingers crossed on this one.
Apartment 143 (June 1st)- We've seen it and reviewed it, and thought it to be average. Still, it could be some scary summer fun for horror fans, and it's nice to see it getting a limited release.
The Loved Ones (June 1st)- We saw and reviewed this one way back in 2010, and we really dug it. It's another horror flick that's only getting a limited release, but considering that it's 3 years old and an Aussie export, horror fans are lucky to even see it in limited release here in the states. If you're down for a twisted "schoolgirl gone wrong" type of flick that involves a creepy prom and some outback incest, then get your butts to the theater and check it out if it's anywhere near you on June 1st.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (June 22nd)- We could be wrong and it could be all sorts of silly fun, but the trailers for this one just left us cold. It seems a bit of a cheesy stretch for us, and that's really saying something. It seems to be more of a direct to DVD release type of movie, and that's exactly when we will brave it... On DVD. Maybe.
Brave (June 22nd)- Pixar is awesome, their movies are awesome, but we just have no interest in them. It's just a personal thing. Despite our disinterest, Brave should please millions and rake in the cash when it hits theaters in June. We include it here because it does have a fantasy element about it, and plenty of our readers definitely be down for seeing it. We hope you love it.

President Obama Endorses Gay Marriage
The residents of North Carolina spoke with one voice, but Obama is expected to condemn their decision by speaking out against the amendment.
In his statements today, the president is expected to cave under pressure from special interest groups and gay rights organizations in an effort to win re-election.
Update: Here is the statement that Obama made endorsing gay marriage just moments ago during an interview with ABC’s Robin Roberts.
OBAMA: I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married.Watch the video after the break.
President mentioned stressed that his statements were his own personal opinion, and that he would leave it up to individual states to pass their own same sex legislation.
He said his own daughters, Maliah, 13, and Sasha, 11, were “comfortable” with concept of same sex marriage.

When Rihanna tweeted birthday greetings to Brown on Saturday, Karrueche quickly followed up with her own tweet. But Rihanna beat her to the punch, so to speak, by wishing a happy birthday to the troubled singer who beat her so badly in 2009 that she was spitting up blood.
You have to feel sorry for Karrueche. She’s waging a losing public battle against a superstar who is determined to win her man back.

Situated at the south-east edge of the Yongsan master plan designed by Studio Libeskind for the Korean development group Dreamhub, Bjarke Ingels Group's (BIG) Cross # Towers will contribute to the developing skyline of Seoul and become a recognisable marker of the new cultural and commercial centre of the city. BIG was selected to submit a design proposal for Yongsan International Business District among 19 international offices, including SOM, Dominique Perrault, REX and MVRDV.
The 21,000 sq m site is positioned next to the existing urban fabric in the future development zones of the Yongsan master plan. BIG's design includes two elegant towers with a height of 214m and 204m. To meet the height requirements of the site, the exceeding building mass is transformed into an upper and lower horizontal bar, which bridge the two towers at 140m and 70 m height. The two towers are additionally connected through the arrival bar at the ground level - and a courtyard below ground.
"The Cross # Towers constitute a three-dimensional urban community of interlocking horizontal and vertical towers. Three public bridges connect two slender towers at different levels - underground, at the street and in the sky. Catering to the demands and desires of different residents, age groups and cultures the bridges are landscaped and equipped for a variety of activities traditionally restricted to the ground. The resultant volume forms a distinct figure on the new skyline of Seoul - a '#' that serves as a gateway to the new Yongsan Business District signalling a radical departure from the crude repetition of disconnected towers towards a new urban community that populates the three-dimensional space of the city." Both the upper and lower bridge introduce rooftop sky gardens accessible to residents, allowing for outdoor activities, while a courtyard at the heart of the development is an integral part of the overall architectural design. Dramatic views towards the neighbouring towers and visual connections across the courtyard from the retail zone create an exciting space for the residents and visitors. The outdoor landscape is envisioned to draw from the charm of traditional courtyards combined with the modernity of the project. Pedestrians at the arrival deck which connects the towers at ground level can enjoy impressive views to the bridges above and to the submerged courtyard below.
The development will offer over 600 high-end residences and amenities, including a library, gallery space and a kindergarten. BIG's design ensures that the tower apartments have optimal conditions towards sun and views.
The bar units are given value through their spectacular views and direct access to the roofscapes, activating the outdoor realm. The exterior facades are developed to correspond to the different orientations and solar conditions, creating a diverse facade which varies from the viewer's vantage point and the position of the sun.

2012 Summer Movie Preview- May
Let's be honest; May already belongs to The Avengers. It's made about 750 Million dollars world wide so far, enriching lives and breaking records along the way. It wont be long before it crosses the billion dollar mark, which is crazy talk since it's barely been out for two weeks abroad, and five days here in the U.S.
Wait though, it cant be all Avengers, all the time, can it? That would be boring. Luckily for us there are plenty of good flicks on the way this summer that look to be pretty impressive, and we thought we'd take a look at the movies that have us most pumped to spend our dollars on them, this May through August.
Obviously we're focusing on horror here, but as geeks of all things genre, we can't ignore a few non-horror goodies too.
The Avengers (May 4th)- We've seen it, we loved it, and we're already fiending for the Blu-ray which Joss Whedon said would have 30+ additional minutes added back into the movie. As comic movies go, The Avengers has it all; Action, humor, emotion, great performances and a great story. Joss Whedon is the undisputed master of taking a gang of flawed misfits and turn them into a cohesive, heroic unit. The Dark Knight Rising is about the only flick that has a chance at being bigger and better this summer. I guess we'll see in July.
God Bless America (May 11th)- Hey, another one we've seen and loved! GBA is getting a limited theatrical release this May, and if it ends up in a theater near you, consider yourself lucky and go see it. It's a bit heavy handed on the preaching, but it's fun and feels pretty relevant in today's pop culture dominated America. The exploding baby was pretty neat too.
The Road (May 11th)- Since we've already seen Avengers and GBA, The Road is definitely our most anticipated movie for May. The trailer looks creepy and interesting, and advanced word has been overwhelmingly positive. The whole "Three separate stories told in reverse" has us intrigued. It's also directed by a guy named yam, and how can you not love that name?
Battleship (May 18th)- Alright, this one looks way too Transformers-like for my personal taste, but I have to admit that it also looks like a whole hell of a lot of action packed fun. If it delivers on the awesome eye candy, I'll be happy. Could it suck? Sure. Will we see it anyway? Yes. THC'er Machine will make me. I don't like to piss him off. He creepy.
Chernobyl Diaries (May 25th)- The whole Found Footage thing is starting to make us cringe lately. Still, Oren Peli has a decent track record with FF flicks, and the trailer looked interesting... here's to hoping that it gives us a good horror fix and not the fits.
Lovely Molly (May 18th)- This movie could be a sleeper hit in the making. It looks creepy as shit, and looks as if it mixes traditional film with some POV action... as long as it doesn't end with the much reviled "it was all in her head!" twist, it could be satisfying. Hell, it could even be more than that.
Dark Shadows (May 11th)- We're sure plenty of people will flock to this one, but not us. We were hoping Tim Burton would go the way of Sleepy Hollow with this one, but alas, it seems as if he's decided that a fish out of water comedy fits the material better. The trailer actually made us cringe. If we were to meet Tim Burton, we'd dare him to make an original movie for a change, instead of churning out remakes and re-telling's. even as good as some of them have been. Dark Shadows is just nothing that excites us.
Men in Black 3 (May 25th)- Part one was fun, but after we saw part two we realized that we just aren't a part of the demographic that appreciates these types of flicks. We also realized that WIll Smith kind of sucks. Name the last really good movie he was in. Not successful, mind you, but really good. Bad Boys I & II were funny as hell, Enemy of the State was fun, Ali was decent, I,Robot we loved, I am Legend was good (except for the awful CGI creatures), Hancock was decent, and Seven Pounds was good even if it was depressing... The Independence Day's, Wild, Wild West's and MIB's of the world though, just aren't our thing. Really, neither is Will Smith.
