The 70's

The Legend of Hell House (1973)- Hell House was everything a good ghost story should be; Foggy, dark, atmospheric, quiet, subtle, and downright creepy. This is one of those early 70's British horror movies that isn't quite a Hammer film, but still manages to get it right. There are some great scares in this movie, and it should be at least seen by horror fans, if not owned. It's not as creepy as The Entity though (see below.)

The 80's

The Entity (1981)- One of the scariest movies I've ever seen, without question. I just reviewed this one for the blog a few days ago, and even as a grown man, I jumped at every noise I heard for the rest of the night. The premise of a woman who is viciously attacked and repeatedly raped by and angry ghost is terrifying to me, and I can't even imagine how bad it would be for a woman to sit through. The last scene in the movie gives me goosebumps just thinking about it; make sure you listen closely. An all-time classic.

The 90's

Innocent Blood (1992)- Sexy Vampire girl vs. The Mob... Could a movie possibly sound any cooler? Maybe if it involved unicorns with laser horns fighting dragons with cyborg David Hasselhoff's riding them. Maybe not even then. This is a horror-comedy if it's anything, but whatever you want to classify it as, it's a lot of fun to sit through. IMDB this movie and look at some of the names in the credits; you just can't go wrong.

The 2000's

30 Days of Night (2007)
- An Alaskan town gets plunged into darkness for 30 days, and some Yiddish vampires have a field day; that's great stuff for a vampire story. A lot of people didn't like this movie, but it worked for me. It was really bloody, fairly tense, and ignoring a few minor plot holes/devices, it was a fun time. (*Be sure to watch for a cameo by Sarah Palin as a bloodsucker that hates polar bears. Ok, not really, but it was kinda funny.)

See you tomorrow with #26...
